    A rare case of presence of unusual foreign body in rectum in homosexual male

    Foreign body in the rectum is rare yet potentially life-threatening condition; fear of social embarrassment causes the patient to delayto seek treatment and even hide the actual history and replace imaging reports, which leads to incorrect diagnosis and eventually thetreatment. In this article, we report the case of a 30 years hepatitis B positive, homosexual male who presented to the departmentwith a chief complaint of pain in the lower abdomen and was diagnosed to have foreign body (pestle) in rectum, which was insertedas a part of sexual adventure and deliberate attempt was made by the patient to replace X-ray films with other patients to misleadthe treating doctor. Finally, the foreign body was removed surgically and was followed by psychiatric evaluation of the patient

    An investigation was carried out at Fruit Research Farm, Department of Fruit Science at College of Horticulture and Forestry, Jhalawar during 16 September, 2014 to 1 March, 2015 to study the individual effect of Pre-harvest spray of Calcium nitrate, Zinc sulphate and Boric acid as well as their interaction on Storability of Nagpur mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco) after fruit set stage. Among different pre-harvest treatments, T27 treatment (Ca 3.0% + B 0.6% + Zn 0.6%) treated fruits had the longest shelf-life of 15 days at ambient conditions with lowest PLW (9.27 %), decay per cent (15.23 %) and better organoleptic ratting (8.41/10) and higher retention of juice percent (39.12 %) till end of storage period

    Brain MRI: a useful tool for screening of hypertensive patients for silent cerebro-vascular damage

    Background: Worldwide hypertension is an important public-health challenge because of its high frequency and concomitant risks of cardiovascular, renal, cerebrovascular disease and death. Current guidelines for the management of hypertension mainly recommend the search for preclinical damage to the heart and kidneys. However, extending this search to other organs, for instance the brain, might improve risk stratification, might optimize antihypertensive therapy and might, in the end help to further reduce the burden of disease attributable to hypertension.Methods: 84 consecutive hypertensive patients with no target organ damage were enrolled in study to find out silent brain damage over a period of one year.Results: Mean body mass index (BMI) of the study population was 28.4±2.5 kg/m2 (range 23.2 to 35.3kg/m2). 33 (39.3%) subjects had white matter lesions. 13 (15.47%) study subjects were found to have vascular changes which included micro angiopathic changes, infarcts and reduced/slow blood flow. 33 (39.3%) subjects were found to have normal brain MRI in the study. Early brain MRI was found to be beneficial in patients who had uncontrolled blood pressure either due to lack of treatment or irregular use of anti-hypertensive treatment. This was true for every age group in general and particularly in subjects above the age of 50 years.Conclusions: The screening of hypertensive patients for silent cerebrovascular damage with brain MRI may be useful in stratifying the risk of future cerebrovascular disease

    Impact of integrated nutrient management on vegetative growth and flowering quality of gladiolus (Gladiolus hybridus Hort.) cv. American Beauty

    A field study on ‘effects of integrated nutrient management on vegetative growth and flowering quality of gladiolus (Gladiolus hybridus Hort.) cv. American Beauty’ was carried out at College of Horticulture and Forestry, Jhalawar during 2016-17. It was found that cv. American Beauty with treatment the tallest plants (121.50 cm), maximum number of leaves per plant (9.03), the maximum  leaf length (38.20 cm), earliest spike emergence (59.22 days), minimum number of days to floret opening (12.50 days), maximum number of florets per spike (17.53), maximum spike length (108.50 cm), maximum floret diameter (9.01 cm), maximum rachis length (39.03 cm) was found in T12 (RDF 75% + Azotobacter + PSB + Mycorrhiza). The maximum stem diameter (1.52 cm) and maximum spike girth (0.97 cm) was recorded in T10 (RDF 75% + PSB + Mycorrhiza). On the basis of foregoing summary, the results may be concluded as follow: The different bio-fertilizer treatments had significant influence on the vegetative growth, flowering and post-harvest of gladiolus in the present study. Application of bio fertilizer singly and in different combinations has significant effect on all the vegetative, floral and corms parameters. Therefore, among various bio fertilizers and their combinations, Azotobacter, PSB and Myccorhiza were found the best, followed by un-inoculated treatment show least value for these parameters during the seasons of experiment

    Correlation between prolactin, thyroid, LH, FSH, estradiol and progesterone in the infertile women

    Background: An important global health issue, infertility affects a couple’s social, psychological, economic, and sexual well-being. A variety of issues stemming from abnormal hypothalamus pituitary ovarian axis dysfunction make up the hormonal diseases of the female reproductive system. The aim of the study was to find correlation between prolactin, thyroid, LH, FSH, estradiol and progesterone in the infertile women. Methods: Present study was hospital based descriptive, cross-sectional study. 150 infertile women were required in sample size. Serum LH, FSH, estradiol was measured on day 2 of menstrual cycle and also serum TSH and serum progesterone on day 21. Results: Around one third (38%) of the cases was married since more than 10 years. Majority 108 (72%) had primary infertility and 50% of the women had history of irregular menstrual cycles. There was significant positive correlation between TSH and prolactin (p value <0.05) and significant negative correlation of TSH with FSH and LH (p value <0.05) and there was insignificant negative correlation of TSH with estrogen (D2) and progesterone (D21). The mean value of TSH in our study was 7.47±1.82 μIU/ml. Conclusions: TSH has strong positive co-relation between prolactin, FSH and LH indicating role in female infertility. These hormonal evaluations allow a routine etiological approach to the diagnosis of infertility.

    Mucin MUC13 and YAP1 correlate with poor survival in colorectal cancer

    Background: Metastatic disease contributes to over 90% of cancer-associated deaths. Colorectal cancer (CRC), the second lethal malignancy, has the greatest incidence and mortality rates in the Southern United States. Over 40-50% of CRC patients acquire metastasis at some point throughout their disease\u27s progression. CRC survival rate drops from 90%-14% when the disease is confined within the colon and therefore “early diagnosis” becomes imperative to determine timely and quality treatments. We have identified that MUC13 protein translocate to nucleus along with transcription factor Yes-Associated Protein 1 (YAP1) during anchorage independent conditions (metastatic phenotype). YAP1 is known to be overexpressed in CRC which promotes proliferation and survival of CRC cells. This study will provide information regarding MUC13 and YAP1 correlation and their role in CRC patient outcomes. Methods: The comparative analysis of MUC13 and YAP1 expression in CRC samples (Tissue Microarrays (TMA) of CRC patients (39 cases and 95 cores)) with Pathology grade, TNM Classification, Clinical stage, and Survival information were investigated using Immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining, followed by digital scanning by 3D-Histech scanner, and analysis using QuantCenter image analysis software. Results: IHC analysis revealed increased MUC13 expression in colon adenocarcinoma and metastatic adenocarcinoma compared to normal colon tissues. MUC13 expression was observed in nucleus, cytoplasm and membrane associated with mostly with poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas, while YAP1 was localized in the nucleus. The correlation of MUC13/YAP1 expression with patient outcome is in progress. Conclusion: This study will potentially establish a correlation between MUC13 and YAP1 with CRC patient outcome

These traditional models are occasionally impractical and often challenging to bring reliable relations between performing parameters. Hence, this study outlined the solutions to overcome the challenges in modeling approaches. The use of machine learning (ML) methods is essential and a promising integration to add intelligent retrieval to traditional modeling approaches of gasification technology. Regarding this, this study charted applied ML-based artificial intelligence in the field of gasification research. This study includes a summary of applied ML algorithms, including neural network, support vector, decision tree, random forest, and gradient boosting, and their performance evaluations for gasification technologies

    Steviol Represses Glucose Metabolism and Translation Initiation in Pancreatic Cancer Cells

    Pancreatic cancer has the worst prognosis and lowest survival rate among all cancers. Pancreatic cancer cells are highly metabolically active and typically reprogrammed for aberrant glucose metabolism; thus they respond poorly to therapeutic modalities. It is highly imperative to understand mechanisms that are responsible for high glucose metabolism and identify natural/synthetic agents that can repress glucose metabolic machinery in pancreatic cancer cells, to improve the therapeutic outcomes/management of pancreatic cancer patients. We have identified a glycoside, steviol that effectively represses glucose consumption in pancreatic cancer cells via the inhibition of the translation initiation machinery of the molecular components. Herein, we report that steviol effectively inhibits the glucose uptake and lactate production in pancreatic cancer cells (AsPC1 and HPAF-II). The growth, colonization, and invasion characteristics of pancreatic cancer cells were also determined by in vitro functional assay. Steviol treatment also inhibited the tumorigenic and metastatic potential of human pancreatic cancer cells by inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in the G1/M phase. The metabolic shift by steviol was mediated through the repression of the phosphorylation of mTOR and translation initiation proteins (4E-BP1, eIF4e, eIF4B, and eIF4G). Overall, the results of this study suggest that steviol can effectively suppress the glucose metabolism and translation initiation in pancreatic cancer cells to mitigate their aggressiveness. This study might help in the design of newer combination therapeutic strategies for pancreatic cancer treatment

    Protein kinase D1 regulates subcellular localisation and metastatic function of metastasis-associated protein 1

    Background: Cancer progression and metastasis is profoundly influenced by protein kinase D1 (PKD1) and metastasis-associated protein 1 (MTA1) in addition to other pathways. However, the nature of regulatory relationship between the PKD1 and MTA1, and its resulting impact on cancer metastasis remains unknown. Here we present evidence to establish that PKD1 is an upstream regulatory kinase of MTA1. Methods: Protein and mRNA expression of MTA1 in PKD1-overexpressing cells were determined using western blotting and reverse-transcription quantitative real-time PCR. Immunoprecipitation and proximity ligation assay (PLA) were used to determine the interaction between PKD1 and MTA1. PKD1-mediated nucleo-cytoplasmic export and polyubiquitin-dependent proteosomal degradation was determined using immunostaining. The correlation between PKD1 and MTA1 was determined using intra-tibial, subcutaneous xenograft, PTEN-knockout (PTEN-KO) and transgenic adenocarcinoma of mouse prostate (TRAMP) mouse models, as well as human cancer tissues. Results: We found that MTA1 is a PKD1-interacting substrate, and that PKD1 phosphorylates MTA1, supports its nucleus-to-cytoplasmic redistribution and utilises its N-terminal and kinase domains to effectively inhibit the levels of MTA1 via polyubiquitin-dependent proteosomal degradation. PKD1-mediated downregulation of MTA1 was accompanied by a significant suppression of prostate cancer progression and metastasis in physiologically relevant spontaneous tumour models. Accordingly, progression of human prostate tumours to increased invasiveness was also accompanied by decreased and increased levels of PKD1 and MTA1, respectively. Conclusions: Overall, this study, for the first time, establishes that PKD1 is an upstream regulatory kinase of MTA1 status and its associated metastatic activity, and that the PKD1-MTA1 axis could be targeted for anti-cancer strategies
